Vice-chancellor’s Doctoral Scholarships: applications are open for study in 2013

Applications are now open for the Vice-chancellor’s Doctoral Scholarships. Each scholarship is available for up to three years. Applications close Monday 24 September 2012 at 4.30pm.

What does each scholarship include?

Each scholarship consists of an annual stipend of NZ$25,000 plus tuition fees for up to three years and is currently valued at approximately NZ$96,000.

Why does AUT offer doctoral scholarships?

AUT is one of New Zealand’s most innovative universities with a research portfolio that covers many subject and interest areas. These scholarships seek to recognise and attract students achieving at the highest levels to contribute to and benefit from this development.

Who can apply?

  • Preference will be given to new applicants to the PhD programme
  • Applicants who have a relevant master’s degree or a bachelors (honours) degree with first or second class (first division) honours.
  • Previous study should include research methodology and an independent research project.
  • Consideration will be given to an applicant’s research experience and publication record.
Applicants must meet the English language requirements for the PhD programme.

How do I apply?

Applying for this scholarship and applying to admission into the PhD programme at AUT are 2 separate processes. You must complete all of the 3 steps of the combined application process outlined below.

1) Register your interest in applying for the scholarship

2) Apply for the Vice-chancellor’s Doctoral scholarship

  • Download the Application Form pdf icon
  • Download the Terms of Reference pdf icon
  • Familiarise yourself with the terms of reference – in particular the application requirements and criteria and the regulations for acceptance.
  • Complete the 2-page statement outlining your proposed research pdf iconin conjunction with your supervisor
  • Contact 2 academic referees and provide them with the reference statement template pdf icon. Your referees will be required to submit a confidential report directly to the scholarships office by the closing date.
  • Provide written support from your proposed primary supervisor. If one of your referees is also your supervisor then they only need to supply one report
  • Submit your completed application. Send or drop into the AUT scholarships office by 4.30pm, Monday, 24 September 2012

3) Apply for your PhD

Applicants will be advised of the outcome in mid November 2012.
